Help When Using F0xx

when typing in BPM using F0XX I think Renoise should give an indication of what the BPM will be, just like when typing in the commands for DSP FX.
this would save having to use your brain/calculator to figure out what this hex number means in decimal.

I do realise this would be a bit trial and error but that’s OK.

a mockup.

I couldn’t clearly understand if you want to have the BPM parameter value in decimal or the real tempo. BPM ranges from 0 to FF in hex (0 to 255 in dec) so there’s no need for a hex to dec converter (when you enter F0B0 and press enter to play a line you can see the corresponding dec value [176] in front of BPM at the top left pane.)

But if you meant the real tempo to be shown, it is also dependant to the speed (ticks per line) value. It might be helpful if renoise could calculate the real tempo (considering current values of BPM and speed) and notify it every time user enters a F0xx or F1xx command.

there was a thread around here a couple months back about how it’s cool to work up in high tempos (700ish) and crank up the speed to something like 12. this would give you a much better resolution when using the 0EXX (retrigger) command type stuff. i quite like working this way…

unfortunately it seems that this technique can not be used in conjunction with FOXX commands. if changes were to be made to F0XX commands wouldn’t it be useful to make them go all the way to the maximum bpm rather than just 255? due to this new way of working i almost never work down below 300 bpm, but i would like to use the F0XX command more…
