I’ve got my Electribe and I’d like to try sequencing it entirely from Renoise. How would I go about setting this up? Can I sequence knob movements by any chance?
I had an Electribe, but I never tried to control it with Renoise since I only treated it as the master send to control hardware. Sections 4; 5.2; 18; 34; and 35 of the Renoise manual may help you with Midi settings. It seems that sections 4 and 18.0~1 may benefit you the most.
depends on the electribe. i had an er-1, which i would have had to dip into sysex to control the knobs afaik, there may be a different midi implementation on later models…

Yeah it can do some pretty funky things when you do hook it up… hooking it up via midi would be what you want to do. What you will need is a midi type interface (a soundcard working the most common) that has midi… there are also cables that have midi on one sode with either a dual “joystick or soundcard” plugin on the other, that worked well for me untill I got a EMU 0404 PCI. Either way after you have it up try it out by playing the electribe after loading a sample and pressign record… it’ll play any pattern in style to what you have loaded in it… kinda funky little tool… i’ve came up with some weird swqueces that way =P What kind of Electribe you got? It’s an EMX. I’ve got it all hooked up now. It was super easy actually. I just have 6 different instruments (5 synths + drums), 5 tracks with a MIDI-Control Device on each with what parameters need modulating in it, and then whatever tracks for drums.
I’ll be working out effects control tracks and controlling drum part parameters next.
If I get the time I might even make a Duplex setup for it. That’s much more involved though. We’ll see.
From the documentation, the fx parameters are controllable via CC (easy), and the instrument parameters are controllable via NRPN (over my head).
NRPN is only needed for drum parameters. Synth parameters are controllable with CC as well.
And you can also take MIDI in from the Electribe as a MIDI controller and have the knobs control the corresponding parameter in Renoise.
