Hello,
I would like to mimic the sidechain with a gate using only Renoise.
Is it possible? If yes, how to achieve this effect?
Best regards,

You can use a signal follower to set the volume on the gated track. See my example and the signal follower tutorial track.
Is that what you had in mind?
Thank you for your help but it’s not really what I had in mind.
I did some research and I think I find a way to do it.
It’s just the opposite of the “classic” sidechain technique.
This technique you used is the classical way to create a “trigger gate”. It was very often used in the 90’s and also still today in trance music for rhythmic chopped pad sounds. And there this technique is better known as a “trance gate”. I’m also a VST developer and made such a trance gate as VST some years ago. the gate will be triggered by an internal step sequencer instead of a sidechain signal. If Someone is interested i can send a download link. It’s at the moment just in 32 bit and just for Windows available, but i began working on a new version which then will also be available in 64 bit.
If you need an example, how such a trance gate sounds in trance music:
This is one of these famous tracks of the 90’s which made the trance gate effect very popular these days…
I find the best way to do sidechain is with a custom envelope, if the sidechain is triggered by one shot samples that is. It’s much smoother than the signal follower.
For Sidechain ducking i use the native LFO to control a Gainer device. I set the lfo to custom mode, draw in my own curves, adjust the amplitude, offset and frequency to my needs, and set the LFO to oneshot mode. Then i use the FX commands of the specific track where the LFO is placed to trigger the LFO’s “Reset” button. This works pretty good for me.
For things like trance gate effects i use my own made VST, because when fast triggering is done with native LFO and a Gainer, there’s a slight latency with the Gainer (the Gainer reacts a bit delayed). Same also happens with FX volume commands.

If you use a key tracker to control the reset of the lfo, it will trigger whenever a key plays. Just set the key tracker to min-0, max-0 and full range.
If youy’re unsure how to set it up you can downlad from here:http://forum.renoise.com/index.php/files/file/98-custom-key-triggered-envelope-generator/
