idea: (DSP) - Value Step Magnet device

(EatMe) #1

Hello,

this idea just came in my mind… I still have to work out the way this can work, but maybe others can supply ideas as wel.

from the slider “input”

make only certain values as output

with certain logic to the actual values entered in the DSP Value Step Magnet device

maybe this device should have a “lookup table” for each value (00-256?) and a desired output value (00-256) with each possible value.

it should also be able to easily let steps (below, around (range), above) be converted into other values.

i don’t get what you mean exactly… can u describe more detailed?

like logic gates? and or not, maybe you want something that could be done with a graphic editor option for the scaling curves of hydra, key and etc. controller outputs? like the lfo editor, sort of. that would be cool, thinking about it.

Feel free to write a tool that would edit the steps in a more user-friendly way.

Yes, the formula device can do any imaginable thing with a single value.

But don’t forget the LFO device - by far the simplest way to implement a “lookup table” + it comes with graphical controls.

  • Insert an LFO device somewhere.
  • Connect the output to whatever parameter you wish to control *
  • Set the frequency to “INF LPC” (= no movement)
  • Switch to custom envelope and edit the values as you please **. “Points” mode is usually the one you want, as it produces hard value changes.
  • All done. Now you can control/automate the “reset” parameter of the LFO device from somewhere else.
  • Tip: if you want the LFO to output only when it changes value, pass the value through a hydra first.

** You can copy-paste envelopes by bringing focus to/expanded the custom envelope and choosing “copy”. The envelope is represented as XML data that you can paste into any text editor. The custom envelope also accept data from automation lanes.

Do what Danoise describes:
it works great

Wow! I never realised I could automate the LFO “Reset” parameter with a Hydra.

That kind of makes it into what I was thinking of. This way I can make any custom curve.
