Image-line Autogun

Image-Line brings us a new VSTi based on their Ogun synthesis engine. With over 4 billion presets, it would take you 136 years if you would like to check every tone for 1 second 24/7. And it’s free.

A VSTi a bit like the one from Ugo “Element Of Surprise”, but without the randomize button.

it is a fun gimmick. Some sounds are usable, but don’t expect all the sounds to be completely different…

A CPU hungry marketing campaign, imho. It was fun for 5 minutes though.

Yay! I had much fun with that one, so I should try the same with this.

right, it eats up a lot of CPU power. it can be nice sometimes, but it’s still quite useless.

Meh, not bad but not efficient. Worth downloading but not running live

Big pile of crap…
Dunno ,I have my doubts about the Image line way of thinking …Got nothing against freeware you know ( I embrace it )
But image line = bad taste int the mouth

So you are saying that you would like the plugin if wasn’t from Image-Line? Now that’s a weird way of thinking.

It’s a teaser product. Have it for free, but it doesn’t really work anyway. You need to buy the real product if you want real usability. Kinda fooling the customers, not really worth the time.

It’s like buying a sample collection. Except that you get it for free and can use the free sounds however you see fit.
If you like the sounds it can produce you have the choice of buying the plugin with all the bells and whistles. Autogun is a demo version of Ogun with a twist. I can’t see any “fooling of customers” here, honestly.

Well if it was that, it would have decent programmed patches. But the random generated patches… Okay, it may have some uses and it’s free afterall, but I still feel it’s bit like fooling… Probably good marketing though.

That’s what demos are there for after all, isn’t it? Some insert occasional noise, some occasional silence, some stop working after 20 minutes, some offer a HUGE variety of random presets but no tweaking ability… what for? To motivate you to buy the plugin. Not more not less.
There is actually also a demo of Ogun (Autogun’s “engine”) for you to try out the controls of the synth in case you like Autoguns’ sounds, so… :)

btw: its randomization is a controlled one. It’s not like randomizing all values to anything. It’s more like, set stuff to value from x to y if value A is set to such and such… etc…
You don’t really get “garbage” random presets. PLUS: Random preset #123456 is the same on my PC as it is on yours. So, if I find a nice random Autogun preset, I can share it with everyone else. Ogun, the real plugin, does also know the same algorithms Autogun has and can exactly recreate any “random” preset Autogun has to offer.
