In v3.5.4 setting volume to 00 stops sample playback

I noticed some of my older tunes don’t play properly in 3.5 but maybe this behaviour got introduced earlier. I looked for a related toggle somewhere in the settings but didn’t find one.

When I mute a sample playback by putting 00 in the volume column, and later want to unmute by putting a non-zero number in the volume column, no sound will play. The sample is not really playing at volume 0, but is instead stopped. Sounds like an optimisation thing?

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Play a longer sample
  2. Set volume to 00 in volume column somewhere down the line
  3. A bit below set the volume back up to an audible level
  4. Notice no sound is playing

The expected behaviour is that I can use volume 00 as a kill-switch and turn things off and on.

What is the specific length of the sample?

It’s 195951 samples or 4.364 seconds, stereo 16bit

Just tested elsewhere and can confirm that I don’t get this problem with every sample

I’m having the same problem in another song with two different samples:

278034 samples (6.305 sec) and

107562 samples (4.248 sec)

I have a feeling the cause might be related to the sampler settings or something like that.
If you share the Song file where the issue reproduces, we might be able to figure something out.

There you go. You can hear the issue on play pos 5 / wah channel / step $10.

I also left the info in the song notes for easier reference.

Thanks so much for looking into it.

It seems like the issue is that Autoseek isn’t turning on.
After doing the compatibility upgrade, I could hear it.

Amazing, thank you!
