Insert Sub-Column At The Left

Hi,

Today I was playing with my keyboard and wanted to add some extra bassnotes to my recorded chords. Because I like to keep the notes chronological per column I found myself adding a new track and cut&pasting all notes one column to the right. I thought, this is quite a tedious and stupid job, so, hereby, I request the Renoise team to look into track expansion that can spawmn tracks at the left side as well.

I’m not sure how to fit this in the current GUI. Anyone?

Cheers,
Knetter

Why don’t you just copy the desired track?

you can add a new track and change the position by drag and drop

Except he is talking about COLUMNS not tracks. You cannot drag track columns around.

+1 for the ability to reorganize columns.

Wouldn’t it make more sense if Renoise auto organizes its track input automatically?

You mean that Renoise should put the note in the right column automatically, based on note heights? Sounds useful for chords but I can imagine also confusing. Also I’m not sure that (auto) ordering is always wishful. Sometimes different notes are ought to stay in the order you like them. For example in a drum track - you don’t want Renoise screwing up the ordering of your beat components based on notes.

Lets stay with the possibility to add columns at the left- as well as right side of the track ;).

We could apply the same idea for the FX rail!
Just some thoughts about the GUI solution for this:

+-----------------------+
| Track 1 |
+---------------+-------+
|<< play >> | << >> | +-------+-------+-------+ expansion, ">>" for right, instead of [-][+] buttons.
|[X]play|[X] off| [X] | +-------+-------+-------+ red cross.
|C-4 05 |D#5 05 |0000000|
|... .. |... .. |0000000|
|... .. |... .. |0000000|
|... .. |... .. |0000000|
|C-4 05 |D#5 05 |0000000|
|... .. |... .. |0000000|
|... .. |... .. |0000000|
|... .. |... .. |0000000|

etc…?

+1!

(Wish Renoise board had nested quotes of at least some depth.)

We have discussed before why Automatic wouldn’t work and only way would be to do it from highlighted selection (or using Advanced Edit selection) due to things such as chord progressions when you want a certain note to be stopped/changed.

I come back from automatic ordering is not a good idea. I think it is a very useful feature after all! Let me explain…
Now, the note ordering is determined on how soon they are recorded. As soon as multiple notes are recorded at almost the same time and notes are recurring on the same row, this ordering becomes arbitrary. Automatic ordering can help to keep the track with multiple columns tidy.

The automatic ordering would make sense as an option (off by default) to the track, like the option for chord/single note recording mode.
