I’d like to join the IRC list thing, but I am confused on how to go about it. Could someone help me with what I need to do?

get an IRC client if you don’t have one. mIRC is quite popular; I’ve used Visual IRC and Irssi (just google search them).
type:
/server irc.esper.net
/join #renoise
and you should be in.
Depending on the client you use, you might enter your nickname in before you start (mIRC and Visual IRC, I believe) or you might have to change it on the server (Irssi). If you want to change your nickname, type:
/nick xxxxxxxxxx
