I guess that this thread actually isn’t at its best location in Bug Report forum but since the subject of discussion is directly related, I’ll post it here. Move if appropiate.
The thing I’d like to discuss is about having a point release incorporating the bugfixes listed here. The thing I didn’t like in 1.8 was that there were small but restrictive glitches (in my case the problems were MIDI related) that were only addressed during the 1.9 closed beta stage. As it seems, since the full 1.9 release there has been some bugfixing going on and I’d love if all people could take advantage of the fixes without waiting half a year for a new program version laden with new features and as usual, with new bugs.
Lately I’ve been pretty idle regarding Renoise but when the moment comes that I get the slightest trace of inspiration to actually compose something, I’d like to do it in an environment that has as few glitches as possible and not wait months for an update. That environment is called 1.9.1, 1.9.2 or something!
As said by IT: 1.9.1 will be released with the first linux beta.
The problem with small bug fix releases is, that they are never “safe” (they are not that well tested as the official round version number builds are - bug fixes can easily introduce new/other bugs), so we always have to weight this up against how critical the open bugs are.
Just out of interest: What problem do you exactly had with 1.8? And which problem do you have with 1.9?
Another question arises from the point of bugfix safety: Would there be any idea to have a short beta period to iron out surprising bugs or are those “1.9.2 beta 3 fatal bug recall” version numbering scheme related issues only going to cause more hassle and confusion? You know it best.
My issues with 1.8 were mostly with the MIDI CC’s polled too frequently in that some cases choked my XV-5080 which itself is known to be prone for the phenomenon. The first 1.9 beta made living with that issue easier by not polling redundant values but I’m still waiting for more customizable MidiCCDevice, for instance polling interval. Now it’s not about bad implementation or bugs: it’s about lack of features.
I haven’t been doing much at all with 1.9 official release; I’ve done just one song and I did not encounter any surprising issues. Then again, some others apparently have had to some degree, at least by counting the [fixed] topics.

Yeah, but not the count counts, but how bad the open “bugs” are… But well, as said above: we’ll release an update shortly. IMHO often released minor updates in software products are a sign that the beta phase for the last release should have been longer.</0x00005628514b6750>
