Iso Free Mixing Eq

As the topic implies, I am looking for an EQ-vst usable to “final mix” a track… I’m quite new at mixing and read that you should use one with a good resolution (many bands…?).

I’ve been looking around, but so far all EQs I’ve found have been $100+ ones, quite out of my league. If anyone has a tip to give, feel free to do so :)

try tls maximizer…

tls maximizer is primarily a master limiting plug. The EQ on it is fairly basic but as a last plug in the chain there is not a lot else (free) imo that will compete with it.

For free EQs I would suggest trying NyquistEQ , for the full controls you will need to expand the renoise native ui in the DSP chain for the plug. It has an adjustable bandwidth allowing for precice cuts and boosts.

At the moment I generally use the SH-1 graphic EQ as it is very quick and easy to use, not as good for precise cuts/boosts though.

If your still in the market for a sub $100 EQ there is currently a group buy for Kjaerhus products which includes GEQ-7 in its last few days at KVR, check this thread:

Have only heard good things about this EQ but not tried it myself, there is a demo to be tried on the kjaerhus site (link in kvr thread)

Voxengo also have a couple of sub $100 EQ`s (also demos on site, to try before you buy) but personally holding out on these products in case there is a group buy in the near future for these, check here:

Just for good measure (if you want some reading :) ) there are a lot of articles on EQ linked here:

Sorry to take this a step back, but you don’t have to use an EQ on a final mix at all. In fact, I virtually never do. And as far as ‘good resolution’ goes, that doesn’t imply having one with many bands. Of course it’s best to always have a paramtric equaliser at hand, and certainly a linear phase one, but again you don’t have to use one either. Only during the individual mixing of each audio track/instrument it’s beneficial, but after mastering the final track you typically shouldn’t need a lot, if any EQ adjusting at all.

To answer your question, though: I don’t know about a good one under $100, but RAVE-n’s VST FX guide might help you find something for free that might suit your need.

Sorry, forget it. RAVE-n’s tutorial only has one EQ listed and judging by the screenshot it look absolutely terrible. So much for freebies.

so, you ‘only’ want an EQ?..

how about the free Kjearhuus stuff?
