When you’re on the phrase screen you can’t play the phrase with the keyboard.
This seems counter intuitive to me because when you want to test out the phrase with different notes on the keyboard you have to move to another screen to do so and then switch back.
Perhaps when not in record mode pressing they keys should play the phrase just like playing instruments on the pattern editor does.
What are your thoughts on this? what’s your phrase workflow?
cheers
I would like to add that an early alpha version had phrase playback mapped to the QWERTY keyboard. IMHO, the result was a major pain.
Consider the following: When you are the phrase editor, you most likely want to edit (from anywhere else, you have immediate access to playback). And in order to edit, you need to hear the sample you are about to enter into the pattern.
Having the QWERTY actually preview/play the phrase made all of this hugely confusing, you felt like you were working in the dark.
So, repeating what has already been said: Enter to play phrase, MIDI keyboard for previewing with transpose - I think this is the right way to do it.
Especially since we might get an additional “record MIDI into phrase” mode, things are not going to be any more simple…
If you dont have midi keyboard it would be nice if you could switch pattern via mouse wheel button for example (by clicking on according phrase).
It is nice for checking transposision between them
(If you use RETURN patern is stopped)
That was not really intuitive no. Being able to assign a dedicated midi device and midi channel might however be a good compromise. One could either switch the midi channel to control the phrase or play it or one could even attach a secondary midi device to always edit the phrase.
