after building a new machine with 4gig of ram , wxpsp2 , i get following message if i try to load a patch in intakt/kompakt(stormdrumm) /kontakt1&2:
Physical memory is getting low!
Loading more samples might cause problems
Really proceed loading?
if i press ok all goes on and all is working, but this pop-up appears every time i want to load a patch.
my old machine with the same systeme have had 2.5gig of ram and all was working fine, now with new CPU&4gig ram i get this annoying dialog
(700mb of 3.2 gig ram is used…)
renoise and stormdrums are fully registered, stormdrum from the same DVD’s. i also read in google that cubase/nuendo users have the same problem, but no one have found a solution, can anyone help me or test it with the same configuration?
i also tried it with virtual mem and without, nothing changed.
okay, after some more google and tests:
all native instrument samplers:
the stand alone aplikations are working, but the vsti dll’s are buggy, above 2.5(!?) gig of ram they interprete the amount of ram with 0.
i tried the /3gb switch, but nothing changed.
my solution: i use now a ramdisk with 2/4 gig of my ram and simply routed the paging file with 2gig max-size to this ram disk.
the nagscreens are gone and i have all 4gig ram availible, on a x32 bit system 8)
for those wo need this too: i use gavotte ramdisk (with gui) www.its-kruschina.de
The /3GB option allows you to allowcate over 2GB of meory for one application.
Having 4GB of ram does not really give you 4GB of ram neither if you have more than 4GB of RAM.
Specially since 32-bit environments of Windows can only address up to 4GB so it even won’t see any more.
I’m not using it for a page file, since I have 2 G of free physical RAM most of the time anyway (no huge sample libraries here), but I’m using it as a cache folder for various apps now, and it’s super fast even though it’s compressed (didn’t find a way to turn that off, I’d like to, just to compare).
My “problem” is I don’t have a killer app for it yet, but it does seem to work as advertised. (plus, it being positively mentioned in c’t magazine pretty much garuantees it’s solid and not snake oil).

only if the exe have a large ram allocate byte setted, kontakt dll’s seems doesnt do this

i’m wondering; you have almost the same system like me, so did you have a kontakt/intakt/kompakt what ever to test it ? whats your result?
thanx 4 the tipp, yes i have. to make thins clear: even if i have 2.5 gig of ram free and the patch is 1mb the nagscreen appears.
on other threads i read that more native software have this bug, battery for instance too, but i doesnt own it and cant test it.
@Vv
I have 6GB, yet Windows tells me i have 3.5GB available…
I doubt i can use any more…
3.5 is much, i can only use 3.16. it depends on your board, bios, chip-driver and the amount of your pci-e ram.
currently i also use vsuit ramdisk, its much better than gavotte ramdisk. thanks for the hint 8)
I’m starting to remember that I got this error sometimes in the past, but it’s been really ages since I got it the last time, and I have 4GB of RAM since… hmm… probably more than 3 years ago.
I have searched the Renoise bug forums for a bug report about this by me, but found none, so I’m starting to think that this is a Kontakt bug which got fixed in the past. Are you sure you have the latest Kompakt version? And also the latest DFD version? Sorry for the dumb question, but I have no clue left about this problem.
Latest Kompakt2 version should be 2.2.4, while DFD should be 1.4.something, if I remember well.
someone also says that increasing paging file size whould remove the issue
hmm, thats a good question… the fuck native registering software forces me everytime i copy my system to a new harddisc to reinstall the native software.
so i always use the original plugins without updates ^^
doesnt know that there are updates for intakt/kompakt/whatsoevertakt .
(beside the dfd for kontakt 1.5)
then I strongly suggest you to find a way to update Kontakt and DFD extension. I strongly believe you won’t have this problem again. Actually, Kontakt2 started to work good on Renoise since 2.1.something.
how did you check your version through NI site? as far as I know, this is now only possible through NI Service Center software. Well, anyway, if you are using Kompakt 2.2.4, you have the latest 2.x version, so I really don’t know what is going on…
i logged in at the NI site, go to downloads, there was a button which shows all updates depending on my account.
the shown version numbers for this update, ist the same which i already have installed from original dvd’s.
btw, my kompakt is 1.08.003, and its bundled with stormdrumm, the NI site also gives a downlodable patch for this stormdrummrelease with the same 1.08.003, so i already have the actual version.
but okay, my problem is solved with a ramdisk. and i know its a failure from native instruments, that was the second thing what i wanted to know.
I think you need to upgrade Kompakt to get the latest edition, i don’t think you can upgrade from 1.x to 2.x just that simple.
(I have the same kompakt version for Symphonic Orchestrra Gold, the Service Center also does not give me any newer updates than what i already have or upgrade to Play whicxh i don’t want to (don’t want purchase an iLok Key)
yes, its bundled, i think ;( i have already learned my lessons: i always hated the anti-copy protection from NI, together with this extreme bug, i never will buy something from NI again, even if the product is so nice like EWQSL, absynth, intakt…
