Lead Help - Looking for a specific lead sample/synth

How can I create something similar to the opening leads of:

and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV-Z7N3HFuE…feature=related

and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDUZlZMhbC8…feature=related

They sound basically the same in all three songs. I’ve already created a nice, dark-sounding pad track, and I wanna create a lead similar to these. It’s gonna be like an ambient dark techno kind of thing. Thanks in advance, kthx.

Sounds like a simple sawtooth waveform to my ears… The most standard waveform in any synth so you shouldn’t have any problem finding one that can synthesize a similar sounding lead.

How would I edit the saw to sound like that, though? What kind of filtering, LFO, stuff like that?

Sounds like ADSR ducks the hi-cut filter fast after the sound begins to play.
that’s how you going to get that ‘teuw’ sound.
at least I think you are after that.

in your 3 samples the sound is modulated differently:

  1. with an sample and hold low-cut filter (or any stepping programming because it seems to have a pattern)
  2. another (probably lfo controlled) low-cut filter
  3. here you can hear that they tweak the length of the sustain controling the low-cut filter mentioned earlier.

Sidenote: that second one is really cool

Don’t wanna make a new topic so I’ll just bump this one. Can someone help me in creating a pad like this one:

I know pitch is being messed around with, but that’s all.

Oh, and if someone can help out with the opening of this:

Sounds like a lead put through a gate of some kind, but I’m not too sure.

Apart from the timbre of the instrument (basically VST hunting), one good way to get that ‘ethereal’ sound is to use the “hold” feature on certain reverb VSTs (such as the free AriesVerb - being a good one).

Hold is activated after the instrument is played for a second or two. It’s like a reverb, but one which never fades away.

It may help if you give each note of the chord its own reverb VST, and activate the “hold” feature at different points to maximize effectiveness.

The reverb would probably help yeah, but the actual sound of the pad I just can’t get, and I have tons of vsts, but most of the pad presets sound awful and really nothing like this song.
