Line In Device

Hi,

Why when i want to render a selection in real mode, i can’t hear line in device ?
Is there any way to record sequences from external synth ? I don’t want to have wave recorder opened in the background. Please do midi out working while rendering :) I am sure that is just few line of code to type.

Cheers,
CCT

You may try to sample your sequence in the sample editor by just recording, but the line-in device was not designed to work in rendering mode and it will never work either in this way.
In some cases you can’t play sequences realtime because the CPU is being overloaded, the rendering is designed to circumvent this matter by creating a wave-file from it.

Your external hardware equipment won’t be cpu intensive to deal with during rendering, but VST instruments and effects are.
If it would be enabled you risk your rendered sequence lacks parts because (vst)effects choked the CPU during rendering.

CPU overload could be solved by first only record the midi to a temp file. Then render and mix it all together. I see no reason why renoise could not do this.

Oh it’s just more convenient to use. I don’t care about CPU…

vvoois: if i can hear this device while normal usage, there is no reason why it can not be enabled while rendering.

I think this is a must have feature (but more important is arranger). Without that Renoise is just a useless toy (for people that don’t want to waste their time for doing simple things in complicated way).

i hope i will see this feature soon :D

I think you’ll find plenty of people here who’ve been “wasting their time” on “useless toys” such as Renoise, FastTracker, Protracker, etc. for many years and will disagree quite strongly with such a silly statement.

Yes, some kind of arranger would be nice, but let’s be fair - Renoise is FAR from being a useless toy, regardless of your compositional methods.

.

I am using trackers since years, but i realized that i can’t make music in that way anymore, because of lack of arranger i can’t finish any song… it’s just too painful and stupid to make those copy & paste all the time… Renoise is loosing lot of potential because of that. We have now 2006 and Renoise’s evolution stopped somewhere long time ago… This is sad why developers spent their time for making features that in fact, not doing important things…
I didn’t see any big difference between 1.281 and 1.8… yep some new gui, some context menus… never mind :) Please do this arranger and make line in usable and i will be happy, and i will have tracker that i am dreaming about :D

put this on master.

CCT: As Psyj said - you’ll have to record your outboard stuff while muting the other tracks (using the sample function in Renoise) and then mix the sample with the rest of your internal tracks. Finally render it and you’re done.

Alternatively, if you just want to record the song as a demo and don’t really care if the quality (sample interpolation) is perfect - use the sample function to sample the song again and don’t mute anything. This is more or less the same as sampling with an external program like Sound Forge - but doing it inside Renoise.
