Make Record Notes To Pattern More Usable.

Currently to record some freeform keyboard riffing, I have to do it like this:
<hit Rctrl-key and start riffing, usually messing up the first few notes>

<riff overwrites stuff/itself if you haven’t left enough spare patterns>

:(

I would like it more like this:

Count-in click-click-click-click

<riff extends past the “last” pattern onto clone(s) of the last pattern with the current track cleared>

:guitar:

This would be a boon for rapid song construction.

Being able to “punch-in” (select a piece of song to overwrite using the keyboard) recording makes for an especially fine recording quality when refining a “sketched out” song you have just recorded ad-lib.

At the moment, if your riff starts on the first beat, you can’t hit the record key and record that first note. (In fact, if you try to enter those notes right after hitting RCtrl or RShift, half the time, your notes will comes out not quite where you’d like or expect.)

Atleast the first problem is not really a problem: just start recording a pattern before.

As Suva said, add an empty count-in pattern on front of the pattern that you want to start to record in in the arranger (containing 4, 8 or 16 rows) and then press right ctrl in your count-in pattern.
a start on first keypress could also be handy though, using the metronome in the background.

In any case, it’s a good suggestion. If you do a lot of recordings it gets very tedious to always have to manually insert patterns etc… In general Renoise needs quite many things to improve live recording.

Yes, it’s a good suggestion, plus it’s posted in “suggstions” not “looking for workarounds” :P
