I think this suggestion is more about being able to collapse tracks horizontally (closer to the Track Grouping idea but without actually grouping them first and still showing something, even though it’s only the note (without octave) which is being played and no commands.) Whereas Pattern Zooming is to do with zooming in on the vertical axis.

@Jalex: well then, it is a good idea and (something like this) has been suggested before. would indeed be very useful.
