Midi Input Ch. In Setup Routing

Hello,

maybe it’s somehow already included in Renoise 2rc2, but it would be helpful if there was an additional column named “midi input channel” in the “setup routing” popup, so I would be able to route the input midi channels to an input channel of the multichannel-vst. Or even could always use midi channel 1 on my midi device as input channel.

Thanks

I believe you set the MIDI channel in the instrument panel:

The routing itself is to give each output an exclusive audio channel so that you can apply different effects to different instruments of the same VSTI.

The exlusivity of an input is set by assigning an Alias of the same active VST instrument number in the instrument list that offers the multi-out plugin.

In the Alias you change the MIDI channel.

With some VST instruments you need to attach a MIDI channel to the input inside the VST instrument editor as well.
VSampler and EWQL Symphonic Orchestra for instance require preassignments of midi channels to the internal extra instrument as well.
In this case you only need to worry that the midi channel in the Renoise instrument properties matches the midi instrument channel that you assigned to the subslot of VST instrument in the internal editor as well.

The below page explains this, if you follow the Independance Free part, you will see that midi channels are set specifically per sub-instrument as well:

If the explanation is not clear or i misunderstood something, feel free to supply feedback again…

I haven’t fully checked the revamped tutorials.

So far, for this one, I like how there’s a “conclusion” at the end of lessons.

Regardless whether anyone checked the docs or not, if the material i put up there is not understood, the conclusion then might be interpreted as pretty sarcastic though, was that what you aimed at?

I hope it doesn’t get taken as something sarcastic.

I’m biased towards non-linear reading and I was aiming at my memory habits being biased towards a serial position effect. The conclusion at the end made it easier, at least for me, to recall some VSTI routing’s that I was not aware of before.

Serial position effect: that items near the end of a list are the easiest to recall, followed by the items at the beginning of a list; items in the middle are the least likely to be remembered.

The ability to assign an instrument’s MIDI input channel is important to me too. I need to control different instruments (both VST and regular) simultaneously during performance, without having to select the focus inside Renoise.

Is this feature being considered for development, or is it relatively unpopular?
