Much Needed Feature (right Now!)

Hey.

Right this minute, I am sampling a movie straight into Renoise.

I am watching the movie in a window (Windows Media Player) and have this on top of Renoise, so I can see what is happening.

I have the Sample Editor (lets face it Sampler :yeah: ) open in Renoise…

But I have a problem…

I am using a laptop so I only have one screen. I want to watch the movie (with a small window in Windows Media Player) but I cant see the Renoise Sample editors record dialog pop up.

Have a look at this pic.

I know I can see the start button, but I think we should be able to move this box around!!!

So to moan, but it is SO annoying at the moment!

:)

Come on guys! At least be able to move it within the confines of the Sample Editor!

I am going crazy here!

haha

Example…

The outline shows the possible confines of the dialog box, which would work fine for me.

Oh man. This is not serious, is it?
Why don’t you simply move the whole renoise screen hard to the left until you see your rec-box fully visible.

Yeah man, but Renoise is the focus, the CENTRE of my world, when I am making music. I dont want some bullshit like Window Media Player cutting in on my Renoise!

This box should definitely be movable.

Like I said, if it can move within the Sample Editor (Sampler! :yeah:) I am very very happy.

Recording this movie now is a real pain in the ass.

You can modify it like shown in the second screenshot, so why it’s a pain.
Just no reason.

I agree that it could be nice if the recording window was movable, but… why don’t you simply resize mediaplayer to a smaller size, man? You’re not watching the movie in Renoise… you’re simply using it as a quick reference to know what the current position is, right?

This is totally usable for me.

Also: Why are you using 1024x768 as your resolution? That’s tiny by today’s standards! I had to resize my Renoise window just to simulate a smaller screen which matched your screenshots. If you have an LCD and it can only support 1024x768 then I understand, but if your screen can handle something bigger… use it!

.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Pain because I like to watch the film when I am recording.

I get a lot of my samples from film, and the reason I like to get all of this is because of the way the movies make me feel. I dont get the same sense of tension when I am just listening to the film. Not the same.

I agree, my display is 1024x768 which might be ghey by your standards, but I am running an old Vaio laptop and that is what the gfx card tops out at.

Whatever, I think the box should be moveable.

If that is not cool then, whatever, but I really would have enjoyed such a feature tonight.

“Why are you using 1024x768 as your resolution? That’s tiny by today’s standards!..If you have an LCD and it can only support 1024x768 then I understand, but if your screen can handle something bigger… use it!”

I also use 1025x768 for resolution in Renoise, simply because my eyes are shit. On higher resolutions (gfx-card/monitor supports 1600 x 1200 max) I can’t read the tiny fonts/character size…and it is a pain to track properly.

Vadarfone, if this is not implemented right now, why not write down time markers for things you want to sample, rewind and record your stuff afterwards when you know what you want?

Here’s an idea

renoise video sweetening!

FL and Sonar both do this, and I think Sibelius probably does now too. Turn some snooty film composers towards the light! :3

this is a VST video player, but I believe there are others. never used one of those, anyway

Watch fullscreen and alt+tab?

much not needed feature for me.

best solution in my eyes is to just use VLC.

be a real technodick and demux, then decode to .wav

Ha!

Yeah, I guess everyone has their work arounds. I just felt that it would have been a real nice feature (and not a MAJOR hassle either… I mean most other programs allow for internal window repositioning!!)

Well, I think like Jonas, my eyes are pretty bad, so I suffer when looking at small stuff too.

All good though, and it is FANTASTIC to be able to sample like this!
