How come every thread on sidechaining turns into “OMF I TOLD U ALREADY USE THIS VST!!!” … if I wanted to use that specific VST, I would be already. The fact is, I want to do MORE than the VSTs you’re offering can do.

Seems to me that off-railing someone’s thread is bad form, old chap… and looking at your post count, you’re not someone who should be telling me to leave the forum… it’s a tad bit rude.

As for the “threat” of free speech that you speak of, I’ve got no problem with it, I just find trolling annoying. And the act of responding to every thread on a subject with the same response, when people have stated repeatedly that it does not solve their issue, is trolling.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the following plugin… http://www.kvraudio.com/get/750.html … plus a midi loopback like Midi Yoke… plus the MidiCC metadevice… plus a gainer… will allow for 100% functional sidechaining! … I was going to make a VST plugin that did the same thing as the one on KVR, but then someone pointed out that one existed already. I’d try it right now, but my soundcard is fuxored until I reboot my laptop

… it might be useful to point out that if this works with a gainer, we will also be able to sidechain other effect parameters as well … I’m really hoping this works because I want to do alot of really cool shit with it if it does.

Volume envelopes are allmost totally out of the question. but other alternatives are interesting…

Hmm. Until Renoise has it’s own sidechain method, I will probably stick to 1.8 when doing dancemusic, where there’s no buffer-delay between the sidekick-instances.

so 1.8 trigger more tight than 1,9’? why?

mongo: The reason is this, in Taktik’s words:

We had to enable the “NeedsStaticProcessingBuffer” option in Renoise 1.9 for all VST FX which do some kind of inter audio routing (for example sidechaining FX). Without this option enabled, they would not have worked at all (crashed or started to crackle) when running on multiple processors.

The “NeedsStaticProcessingBuffer” option makes sure that the VST gets always called with the same sample frame size. We can only guarantee this by buffering the output of the VST.
So with multicore enabled we currently don’t have a choice and must keep this option. This delay could be compensated via PDC later, but as we currently dont have this, I guess there is nothing we could do to solve this…

The ultimate solution in my opinion - and by that, I mean a solution that will not break in later versions - will probably be to wait for Taktik & co to implement a sidechainable compression module specific for Renoise (yay!) or to wait for PDC (which is probably a lot tougher task).

Okay.

1. First problem was how to sidechain - This was overcome by using a send track where the jUltram could be set pu.

2. This had to do with jUltram resetting it’s midi output to the first one in the list - when a song is saved.

To overcome this:
Set up your system like this.
Go to audio preferences and set up MIDIYOKE as your windows default player. Then use midiyoke in the jUltram.

3. problem is the one that prevents sidechaining inside renoise. And this is bad since this is due to renoise.

Renoise records the CC’s of the jUltram on the track where the Gain (for example) is automated by it everytime user presses stop - so that the rec mode is on.

This is something you might want to test out with jUltram before programming a plug-in.

And… the settings in the midi tablet do not help - tested it and just about everything possible and got to say it is REALLY close…

The sidechaning works BEAUTIFULLY without any delays or anyting… but… cannot be used due to this…

After 5 minutes of composing your tracks are filled with random “volume” automation values…

Edit: and this depends on the release of the kick…

So … test with a long kick firsthand to see what I’m talking about

There are so many topics of people who want to sidechain in software, why not buy a hardware compressor? You can get a compressor/gate/limiter witch sidechain inputs for about 80 euro’s, and a real compressor is so much more fun than trying to get the software working.
