I’m using a Kontakt 4 drumloop for the first time ever, so maybe this is some unintuitive feature of Kontakt.
Anyway, the problem I’m having is that the loop doesn’t restart whenever I press play, it just keeps playing the loop as if nothing has happend, it also seems it doesn’t care much about noteoffs in generel. Try the attached song and press play again when it’s in an offbeat position.
Well, I’m really not sure this is a Kontakt issue, I mean I expect a song to initialze when you press play.
And I really don’t understand the logic that goes on with Renoise. When you play the loop on your keyboard it behaves like it should, it stops correctly and you can play the track in the song I attached, but when you play the track as a song then it won’t work.
Something is clearly wrong, Renoise behaves differently when you are play Kontakt live and when you play the song/track.
What I don’t understand is, why I can play the loop like a machine gun on the keyboard, and not being able to replicate that in a track?
What is Renoise doing differently with note-offs in a live jam situation contra playing a track?
It appear it doesn’t reset the loop like when you jam the keyboard. I just had a thought that it’s made like this to cater some melodic sequence instruments, but I don’t think this is the correct to go about it, if some wanted to mute the instrument then they should turn down the volume instead of not resetting the loop!? I don’t know, maybe some hardcore Kontakt user can shed some light on this.
For now, I just have to stop the song and wait a bit before starting playback, that way the song play in sync…
When a song is stopped, it can still play this sequence for as long as you hold a key down, and you can release and press a key again without any problems. Anyway I think I understand what’s going on, something is syncing the sequence when the song is playing and is preventing note-offs from initializing the sequence, it might be by design of Kontakt, I just found it illogical.
But shouldn’t Renoise at least make a split-second stop and initialize sequences when you press play while it’s playing, so it makes sure the song plays in sync?
It actually does the same with Kontakt 3 and 4 players, and with all the drum kits from the demo library Kontakt Selection. I imagine if your library contain any drumkit you should be able to reproduce this, examine the loops the drumkits have in octave 5.
I know using drumkit loops is low life, but honestly I only ran into this problem by accident hihihi =) so fix if you care, I don’t LOL
