Pattern Editing Masks?

Afternoon,

Right last night I downloaded some old Amiga .mod files. I found a load of stuff by Jesper Kyd that I wanted to have a play with for nostalgias sake…

I loaded one of the songs into renoise and it worked fine. I decided then that I wanted to keep the original (dated) song structure but replaced all the sounds with modern high quality versions for a laugh…

Obviously replacing the samples was not a problem. It took about 5 minutes in the instrument window…

The issue I want a bit of help with is thus…

All this old stuff was done on an amiga using 4 tracks, meaning that each instrument was not given its own track like we can do nowadays. This means that things like the drums are all on one track.

Is there an easy way to seperate all these elements on to their own tracks or (like I did last night) do I have to painstakingly work my way through each pattern labouriously draging samples (took hours)

I am hoping there is something akin to the masking feature in photoshop where you can highlight certain parts to not be deleted etc…

Any ideas… (and is this too vague for anyone to understand  )

Ahh that’s the craft enjoyment of tracking, playing with endless spreadsheet code! What do you mean it was painstanking work to do? :P

But yes, I do agree with the idea. An AdvEdit instrument copy mask?

Yes, an AdvEdit Instrument Copy Mask! THATS what I was wanting to say.

Well done sir.

Imagine being able to select instruments from a list and then press a ‘mask’ button. delete all the info from a pattern and the masked instruments remain…

or…

Advanced edit function to highlight certain instruments in a track (if they have been mixed or span across a few tracks for whatever reason)

ooof that would be ace!!!
