Phenom Ii X4 Now Or Sandy I5 Later?

I ordered a Phenom II X4 965 BE with mobo and memory a while ago to upgrade my ancient AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (that is absolutely dying under the strain now I have a 1920x1080 monitor).

It’s finally in the shop now, and I could go get it or just leave it be because they took a long while to get it there and I have no obligation to actually buy it now.

I’ve read that a more cost effective, and a more efficient and nice CPU all together would be to save a little more for an Intel Sandy Bridge i5… thinking I should get that 2400 one, just the regular…

I dunno… What do you folks think? It’s not about building the ultimate computer or anything, just want to have something good for tracking that will last a while.

Is there something important in some way that would affect me later on? Or should I just go get the AMD?
