My previous album used all live drums. For this album, I went completely electronic with the percussion. The first four tracks were made using Hydrogen; the last 5 were made using Renoise.
To create the Renoise tracks, I sampled all 40 of the percussion kits on my Nord Rack 2X, loaded them as Renoise Instruments, and kept tweaking until I had the right sound. Probably my best experience was being able to take the same song structure and remap the instruments to change the feel dramatically.
