(Probably) An Easy One . . .

This will certainly be a noob question . . .

I was playing around with the sample editor, and noticed some buttons along the bottom with the pop-ups “Set a new loop start” and “Set a new loop end”. Certainly, these do seem to set some kind of start/end markers, but I can’t figure out what operation respects them. For example, when I hit play in the sample editor, it starts playing at this dotted vertical line, not at the red vertical line marked with an “S”. And when using the sample in the pattern editor, it starts at the beginning of the sample. Any thoughts? Thanks.

There is no start and end points in the Renoise sampler right now. What you are referring to is the start and the end of the loop points.

But the question is “what do they do”, because when I play the loop in any context I could find, they were ignored . . .

They are not ignored, the sample is looped between them.

Under the instrument settings tab, in the sample properties box, there is ‘Loop’ drop down list - it is set to off by default so you need to select forward, backward or ping-pong to actually make it loop

Beautiful. Thanks!
