Quantize To Half A Line?

Hi there,

how can I quantize to half a line? Say I have a LPB of 8, and then record something like a C-400 with a delay value of 90. Now I want it to snap to a delay value of 80. But how? I have tried setting the quantize step to 0.5, doesn’t work. I tried to set the the quantize step in the advanced operations to 50, doesn’t work either. So, how does the quantize work?

The quantize sort of locks to rows only. If you definately need quantize to 50% of the row, then raising the LPB from 8 to 16 is the quickest solution.

And then to 32 to get more resolution? That’s not really a solution. Too bad.

…it’s actually a great solution. we use it all the time and a resolution of 16 w/ no quantize set yeilds spot on results. it records all the subtle nuances of a jazzed out buddy rich style snare work out. and super easy to expand and contract your song from 8 to 16- to 32 with the option of “expand” and “whole song” selected. though i will say sometimes when contracting, the data gets wonky…so i usualy use bigger size blocks w/ 16 LPB by default.

The problem I find with this is that when you have larger LPBs you’ll afaik hit the pattern size limit of 512
It would be nice to have virtually a higher LPB but compressed and hidden and optionally expandable actual LPB so that you could choose to sequence when it looks like 64 lines 4 lpb when it’s in fact at a higher recording resolution for automation and timing.

I agree.

This one of the few things that bugged me about renoise over the years

Taktik somewhere in the past mentioned wanted to do pattern zooming, i understand in this context something like pattern lines being divided into 4 / 8 / 16 / 32 / 64 / 128 and 256 steps (as much as delay values.)
It would be a great addition to Renoise specially if this also means that these positions can have their own effect parameter values and automation points.
