Recording Midi Data From Renoise?

Hi all,

I am trying to convert one of my Renoise songs into sheet music for my school jazz band to play. I have Finale 2004, which will be my notating tool for the project. I could notate it manually in Finale, but I am wondering if it possible to record or export the note data contained in each Renoise Track into Midi data, which could then be opened by Finale (saving a lot of time/work). Modplug Tracker does this very easily with it’s “save as Midi” feature, but how can it be done in Renoise? Any info is apprectaied!

There is a way to do this with eXT but I don`t know how reliable / complete it will be for what you want to do.

  • You will need to load eXT as a VSTi in renoise.

  • Load a sequencer in it via the right-click menu.

  • Set the sync to external (under options menu in seq).

  • Press record button in eXT

  • Press play in renoise and the data should appear in the MIDI track selected.

  • Under file menu in the sequencer there is the option to export as a midi file.

The demo of eXT should allow you to do this as on eXT site it says the only limitation is non re-loading of projects

It is also slightly buggy recording into XT at the moment with the occasional note being cut short, but a couple of takes should do the trick if this occurs (or adjustment in XTs piano roll)

Anyhow may be worth a go.

Is there a way to save the sequence as a midi file?

not directly into ReNoise.

As stated, you can use a MIDI virtual cable to export to another sequencer

With the XT method exporting = saving :)

@ It-Alien, just for clarity, this XT method does not require a virtual MIDI cable as the VSTi itself handles the MIDI data. I`m sure a virtual MIDI cable could work in different situation though.

Also relevant to this subject as it comes to mind could be using jthalamus VST. I have posted a thread here:

on how to use it with renoise and eXT. Can be unstable but may be worth a try if valuable enough and you keep backups up to date :)
