Release On Sampled Vsti Pads And Leads

I have never before used the “Instrument editor”. How can I make sampled pads, leads and such have a “release tail” so that they won’t abruptly end where new chords enter?

Here is an example of what I mean. First plays the regular VST instrument (04) and then the sampled version (05) of the same VST instrument (single note C4 is rendered to wave, then that sample is used to create a chord, using three notes).

I want the sampled version to be closer to the original version. Any suggestions?

Seems to be easy: Under Instrument Settings one just activates “Note off” for NNA under Sample Properties. Then one adjusts the Fadeout value in the Instrument Editor.

Is this the correct way to do it? Or can I optimize sampled pads and such differently?

NNA is generally the right keyword here.
in order to get the desired fadeout after a note is retriggered on the same column, you generally have three different options:

  1. enabling an (volume- and/or filter-)envelope
  2. defining a fadeout value
  3. a combination of 1+2

i’d start with setting the fadeout to zero and draw a nice volume envelope curve, appropriate to the way you desire the pads to fade out.
you can easily determine the attack, sustain and release ratio by doing that.

depending on the length of your sampled pad, you may want to define a loop in the sample editor view, in order to make your pad more flexible and hinder it from ending abruptly.
