well i wasnt expecting this,because the demo version ran fine.
i uninstalled the demo,and installed my registered copy.
it ran fine at first,but when i opened it up the second time,
i got a message saying it crashed and i should report the bug.
unfortunately there were no other error messages!
it just shut down my system and goofed up a bunch of
gnome apps,like the gnome app manager,etc.
so i cant seem to fix it so i have to reinstall 
anyway,i guess i should use 1.9,im running ubuntu 8.04.1
with an rt kernel.2.6.24-22-rt,on an acer aspire laptop
intel,celeron2ghz,2gbram,and an hd intel sound card.
any ideas?ive never seen anything crash linux before!

Also with Linux, Renoise should write any specific errors into the log file which you should be able to access it from the help menu (there is a link in the help-menu to the log-file).
Paste the contents of the logfile here on the forum in a code-box, maybe Taktik can see something that might explain the situation more clearly.
shoot!! i already reinstalled,sorry.i decided to run ubuntu 8.10 and renoise 2.0rc2 runs fine on it.
woulda coulda shoulda,now ill never know why it crashed.
