You mean like a single Pattern Effect Command, now they are done with letters rather than Hex?
Loving all the new stuff once again, how can it be improved again ?! I remember hesitating at first when picking Renoise as my main DAW ( at around v2.0 ), and I can say now that it this not only my main DAW but also my only DAW.
Only Ableton Live can be a serious contender to me, for live use, which may be the next use the dev team will be working on …?
Anyway, you dev team are incredibly great, you listen to your customers and it makes a huge difference to me ! I feel like my suggestions for next releases and stuff really are studied. Cheers !
i can’t for the life of me figure out how to group tracks
Probably better ways but:
Right-click on track → Insert Group (or press Ctrl+G)
Drag other tracks you want into the group.
Have you tested mxb’s script called “Cells!” ?
Yeah I did, it is awesome, and it’ s this tool which made me believe that Renoise could become a very nice DAW for live use. This tool has been made by mxb alone, so isn’t exciting to think what the whole Renoise team, along with mxb, could make in a 2.9 release ? Wouldn’ t it be great to have this tool adapted natively in Renoise ? It surely is a lot to think about, but it could be really worth it according to me
( Hehe I love Renoise, this is probably the only DAW where these kinds of crappy ideas can be heard by the devs themselves )
IMO live performance is not only “Renoise on stage”, but also “jamming with your mates”, and you need a pretty responsive instrument to pull that off.
Also, have you seen any the Hitori videos? There is no single and “correct” way of doing live performance.
I made this diagram to show how I think that development could work both sides of the coin. Basically, let’s not implement every feature natively - but let’s have all the right methods in the API, so an alternative workflow (like Cells!) can be awesome too.
Speaking of live performance, I used 2.8 beta when I played live in Osaka this weekend. Yeah, I know you should never perform live with beta software, but I really wanted to use the repeater device! Anyway, it was awesome. Renoise held up just fine, even with two instances running simultaneously with tons of DSPs and tracks.
I think I perfected your diagram:
new master spectrum is the most trippy piece of software I’ve ever seen
Yargs, you might just have. Diagrams are powerful stuff
cheers!
The sample loading is way too fast. I have no time thinking about what I’m going to do with the sample that’s loading, it’s just there.
Thank you so fucking much dev team!!! Tracks groups & the external editor were by far my 2 most wanted features!
The which?
I’m sure he means this external editor:
ahh, but of course

Late-night post FTW! I meant the LFO/env external editor
man… i’'m just gonna keep repeating this till they ban me from here or implement it allready…
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give the automation lane the same external editor functionality… working in such a small bar for automation edits is such a frigging pain in my huge ass
Lay off already.
D’you honestly think that they think things half-way and it was just a mistake that not everything is detachable as of 2.8?
We’ll get detachable automation and expanded automation editors when the devteam are ready with it, and when it works according to their fairly strict specs for stability and quality control.
Also, did you notice that 2.8 introduced the resizable instrument box? And that it resulted, during 2.8Beta testing, in replicable crashes which got fixed for Beta#3. Instead of them introducing something like 8-10 detachable views which all start crashing and messing up everything, it makes so much more sense to just give us expandable instrument envelopes for now.
Repeated demands for detachable maximized automation envelope editor are about as boring reading as demands for pianorolls. Maybe even more boring.
