The coding work would not be OPTIONAL for Taktik and co, not to mention the barrage of requests and complaints that would come if they did introduce a PR in a way some people did not like.
OPTIONALâŚpiano roll wouldnât hinder your workflow in any way shape or form, especially if that OPTIONAL piano roll came with the ability to be hidden out of sight.
Thatâs what you wrote and youâre absolutely right, I didnât deny that. I just wrote WHAT I PERSONALLY think about piano roll and Renoise. And I think thereâs no need having a piano roll in Renoise or any other tracker, because itâs a tracker. And even if I canât comprehend why someone would need a piano roll while using a tracker, it would be absolutely ok having one as long as nothing changes and you can get it out of sight. If someone really need it for whatsoever, itâs all right. But I think itâs also absolutely ok thinking that a piano roll in Renoise would be a waste of space, what I still think.
Because Renoise is clearly the superior software, I simply used PlayerPro as an example of a piano roll being effectively implemented in a tracker as a counterpoint argument against the idea that a piano roll could not work. Also I clearly stated that I have no personal use for a piano roll, but there are other people and potential new users who would most definitely find one useful.
Ando no the coding work for a piano roll would not be optional, but neither would the coding work for the countless other demands / requests / complaints listed on this page of almost 200 posts.
My point is that Renoise users, not all but some, are so resistant to the idea of change within the software, and so blindsided by this idea that trackers are superior to everything else, that they would almost rather see the entire project fail then have a piano roll added.
This thread suddenly turned interesting
If Renoise doesnât need a piano roll, then what does it need? Valid stuff would be standard compliance and perhaps more pattern effects? Perhaps better arranging features than the PM. But: for sure, it doesnât need better instruments or synthesis since there are already countless VSTs out there. And no more native DSPs for that matter. That logic would be similar.
Or you could argue that the software would benefit from being as good as possible.
PS. The step sequencing tools available are a disgrace to Renoise. It should be a tracker and nothing else
Radium tracker has a piano roll aswell.
As this is the meme thread not the feature request/complaints thread i made a meme for you:
Best one so far
Wow, how could I ever hope to compete with such a rebuttal at thisl!! Your counterargumentâŚsolid! Youâre logicâŚflawless!!! I mean; an additional optional piano roll feature at no hindrance to the current user, a multi-format approach to writing music all inside a single DAW making it a truly âuse the software in a way that suits you bestâ modular work environment, an appealing feature that would attract new music makers and help current musician transition more smoothly over from current piano roll based DAWs into a tracker based system, and an incentive to possibly generate more revenue for the project thereby increasing the chance of further/regular updates for features that long time users have been requesting for years, WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! Clearly Iâm wrong Mr Cupcake!! Youâve bested me with your cunning intellect, sharp debating skill, and oh so uber memeing abilities. What an imbecile I look like. I concede and admit my defeat. Congratulations Mr Cupcake. Well played!
It would interesting to see the planning stages for adding a pianoroll like how it would display note-offs and pattern effect commandsâŚ
I really would like to get sample aliasing for easily creating my symetrical drumkits, but then I think about how its not that simple overall, like there can be multiple samples per key in keyzones so it would have to mirror everything on one key in keyzones to another keyâŚ
I think both are doable though, but they will be a lot of work for one guy alone.
For me personally I dont really care about a pianoroll but I want this keyzone aliasing or sample aliasing or even audiotracks, maybe one day. peace out
This thread suddenly became 100% off topic
Happy to help.
Only 75% of the memes talk about PianoRoll.
But OK, letâs talk about all the other features that are needed only by those who need them.
Renoise should no get a piano roll. It also should not get VST3 support, and definitely not Ableton Link support. In fact, I would argue that VST2 support (any plugin support really), Rewire, HiDPI support, ASIO support, LUA scripting, meta devices, the mixer, track grouping, OSC support, multicore support, and PDC should be removed in the next version. I mean, letâs be real, no tracker needs that stuff!
