Looks like you’ve got plenty of volunteers already, but here’s another one, if you’re still looking.
In my opinion, excellent English is a necessary condition for writing a manual, but not a sufficient condition. Being able to spell and use correct grammar does not make you a good writer.
I’ve got some experience in writing manuals (well, instructions pages more like) for software at work. I also write for a newspaper. What I’d like to see happen is a complete redesign of the manual. Spelling and grammar can be checked by computers these days, so in my opinion, they’re not the biggest issue.
I don’t mean to diss anybody, I’m sure you understand.
Vili’s right, the educational aspect of writing the manual is also very important as many use it as not only technical reference, but an introduction into tracking itself. I’m an ex-ft2 musician so I’ve hardly read it (maybe unfortunatly?), but it seemed well written from the llittle I saw. A complete rewrite should not be something one person does on his own tho. Mabe some aspects of the trackers handbook could be included, with tips and tricks on techniques and styles?
Btw, I can possibly translate it into norwegian if I find the time, but no huge promises…

I work fulltime as a producer and composer, mainly for radio and tv, and I’m very excited to start working with Renoise. What keeps me from really getting into this app is the IHMO not so good documentation. For someone coming from a tracking background it would be totaly adequate, but for me, being used to Logic Audio, the learning curve is much greater. The documentation doesn’t get into nearly enough detail about how to achieve the slides, bends, pans, vibratos and arpegios that are so characteristic for much tracked music. So I suggest a much deeper manual, more tutorials and maybe even a Quicktime video presentation of the basics. Also, some included sounds with the registred version would add great value, I think. Otherwise, this is by far the most dedicated, enthusiastic software developers I’ve come across. I’ll be happy to act as a guinnea pig for a new manual.

anyone who wants to help us with THAT task, please join #renoise / ircnet this friday evening (CET) or / and saturday.
ppl who want to contribute the documentation-translation stuff: go for it we will give you the sources of the documentation (pics, html files, html-help project file). The best would be, if you start a thread for each language, to organize yourself a bit. i could create a temporary board-section for this, if its needed (read: if it will spam this section too much)
