Renoise suddenly high CPU usage while sitting open in the background

I had Renoise open today (project with VSTs also) while doing something else. Suddenly, after a few hours, my CPU usage went up like crazy and it was Renoise. I had to kill it. This is from the log:

Audio Plugins: Timeout while waiting for the plugin device to suspend!

Application: Terminating...

System:
Ubuntu Noble with Pipewire

Could be something about power managment if it happens after a few hours. One service wants to go to sleep /suspend, but something else wants to keep it awake with RT priorities. Just a guess.

I was working on the PC, so it was not idle or so.

Can you find any relevant information in syslog(journalctl) ?

only this during the crash:

Was it exactly Renoise, or a Renoise slave process?

Can also be a plugin in Renoise of course.

I’m not entirely sure, but depending on the use case, it might be necessary to make librewolf a real-time process.
Is the problem that it’s failing because rtkit-daemon.service is being masked?

it looks like a buffer overflow when the plugin tried to go ‘to or from’ sleep mode. I’m guessing it’s the plugin i think.
Anyway, if you force quit Renoise and there was no response from the plugin, it’s logical.
Name of the plugin you suspect?

I made music with Studel in Librewolf, but I think when Renoise consumed all my CPU I still had audio in Librewolf. Still a good idea to give Librewolf RT priorities. Will ask the Strudel guys if someone did this.

Thanks. Can be Hive maybe or a TAL plugin, Airwindows, Luftikus or Loudmax. But I don’t have any clue. Didn’t happen to me before.

First, try opening the same project in Renoise while using Studel in Librewolf to see if you can reproduce the issue.
If running a command like sudo systemctl unmask rtkit-daemon.service improves the situation, that’s likely the cause.
