Rethinking Legacy Limits

I see. It looks like you’ve hacked it.

hello_32768.xrni (205.0 KB)

hello_8192.xrni (205.0 KB)

hello_16384.xrni (205.0 KB)

16384 can be hit. but 32768 turns into -32768.

@tkna

So I guess the upper limit is 32767?

having a little hack at this now.

the sad bit is that if i save the xrns, and load it.. its gonna crash.

there might be a hacky way of writing a Paketti saver, that stores the info of the beatsyncs, then sets the beatsync to 512, then upon Paketti loader, it sets the beatsyncs.

but.. i dont know if its worth it since renoise really shouldnt crash on these.

Thanks for the hack @esaruoho and @tkna for diving into this. The beatsync index box still can’t be touched afterwards though.

Definitely need this uncapped natively

Admittedly, in terms of compatibility with formats like *.mod, *.xm, and *.it, while you can import those files into Renoise, you can’t export *.xrns files to those formats. So, it seems like there shouldn’t be a problem with saving and configuring Beatsync values that exceed 512.

But wouldn’t that increase the processing load and make the system more prone to freezing?
Even if that were the case, there are limits based on system specifications and other factors when processing BPM, LPB, or sample lengths anyway, and users still have to adjust the load according to the situation. So, setting the upper limit to 32,767 or similar doesn’t seem like it would cause any particular problems.

Admittedly, I’ve never used any other tracker, but I agree that the importation of XRNS/XNRI should be a concern of other DAWs. Our DAW can import damn near everything in some way shape or form. And those guys on the other side weren’t concerned with the hurdles our developers and programmers faced.

So I hope that that’s not a hangup for developers if this was something that was feasible to implement.

ATP processing load wouldn’t be an issue unless one pushed their system to that limit IMO. Trust me, compared to the other DAWs(Mainstream), Renoise is by far the most efficient, at least from a (Power) user’s perspective.

It definitely would be worth it in my opinion.

This hack is the closest thing we’ve got to getting around that blasted 512 beatsync line limit. It’s just too little for anything outside of drums. I’ve been saying this for years now.

So let’s just jailbreak it ourselves lol
