Severe Sudden Hearing Loss

Now its all coming out!!!the sick and demented world of the internet eh?

But back to hectics topic…i went to see Therapy? when i was about 18 at the london astoria.had a great time crowd crawling and drinking anything. we got the train home that night. My ears were ringing terribly and the next morning there was blood caked around the inside of my right ear. Being stupid i didnt do much about it, (didnt eaven have Bones the dog to clean it) and the tinnitus went away in a couple of days. about a year later i had a medical for work. A nice lady put me in a seperate room with headphones on and played me different frequencys and I had to tell her if i could hear them or not. Afterwards she asked me if i had ever suffererd trauma to my ears!!!The gig was the only thing i could think of.the nice lady showed me graphs of my hearing for each ear, and yes, the right ear had lost some of its higher frequencys. I dont notice any trouble with my hearing, but sometimes i wonder if my mixing is ok.
Does anybody have any tips for how we can check our hearing? I have a pair of behringer truth monitors, and a pair of sony mdr-v900hd. would these be accurate enough for playing sine waves and sweeping frequencys to see which we can hear or not? How do we go about setting it up to do it?

Hell yes. Venues that crank up the volume like that are freaking retarded. Several times I’ve gone to concerts and been afraid to get hearing problems afterwards. I shouldn’t have to. There are laws and regulations.

I had the same thing happen two weeks ago. Same amount of loss and ear. The ER doc told me I had Ménière’s disease. I have a history of vertigo and hearing loss which are prerequisites for that diagnosis. Hearing is better now, but it still rings more than it did before.

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s good that it’s come back though. Is your hearing back to normal with some ringing? I went to the specialist about 3 weeks ago and did the testing. My ears are as good as new again. He didn’t know what could have cuased it, and told me that in cases where your hearing disappears suddently they don’t know what causes it, so it’s common that they blame it on a virus, but there is really know way to know.

I always say, you really don’t fully appreciate your health until suddenly your not feeling so well. I hope your condition improves and your hearing gets back to normal.

Thanks. It still rings a bit, but about normal. I already had some loss to due my old job, raves, and a Funker Vogt concert.

As far as health, I agree. Waking up with doctors strapping a defibrillator to the chest is never fun. But that’s another story… ;)
