[Solved] Midi Doesn't Play In V2.8.0

Hi there,

It seems midi files don’t play in Renoise V2.8.0.
(I use the 64 bit version)

What happened and what can be done about it?

Ok! Later!

Well, first, Renoise is not designed to be a convenient midi file player / editor. Are you understanding about it?

Anyway, Renoise can load midi files. And you have to set proper sound generators for each instrument manually in the “Instrument Settings” tab (for example, VSTi, Samples, External midi gear). Have you set any sound generators??

Sorry for the late reply.

So I have to assign every instrument one by one.

This wasn’t in earlier versions of Renoise.

Why was it changed?

CU!

Hmm, basically, there was no change about such midi part in Renoise itself, I think.

One thing I suppose about your problem is, maybe you had set “Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth” or something similer midi device by default before??
If you set MSGS-synth at [Preferences] >> [Files] >> [MIDI Import], then if you load a MIDI file to Renoise, MSGS-synth will be set to each Instrument Settings automatically.

:excl: But the MSGS-synth seems to be a problem if you are using ASIO4ALL (This seems well-known issue. I’m usually using Asio4all too, and I cannot open MSGS-synth during using A4all in Renoise).
So if you are also in this case, you should use DirectSound or another audio device, instead of ASIO4ALL.

I’ve set the MIDI Device now on MSGS and it works!

Thanks!
