To use either just open a New song, put a note in a track and paste this into the track in the mixer where the note is.

EDIT: Changed Code for Spoiler tags.

@kazakore: really nice! that works exactly as i meant it. but, bit_arts is correct in noting that this is by no means a practical solution. it’s quite a lot of work to just change some settings. i appreciate the efforts though, thanks again!

ok. this may not be a perfect solution but i think this is expandable to sound just the way i would want it. just figured this out by accident tonight.

play a continuous note (sine for example). LFO Device set to square wave with a low offset (i have it at 10%), controlling a Gainer. slide the LFO Device Frequency up and down. this does exactly what i want, all you need to add is a volume fade-out and maybe some way to control how each successive step sounds (ADSR).

it probably has its downsides, but i think it is a pretty unexpected way of setting this up. what do you think?

What you describe is a gate, not a delay. And it’s in no way, meaning or effect comparable to a delay.

yes, i know. however, it does do the thing i’m after. so it’s a total fake, i’m aware, but i don’t care much for official names and functions but only to achieve the effect i’m after. in other words, i want a sound to repeat at a rate speeding up or slowing down, and in my last post i described a method that does this.

very cool trick kazakore, thanks! ^_^

Sorry, but you didn’t describe any method like that and your sound doesn’t repeat. You just keep holding a single note while you open and close a gate. Your sample plays on and on and on. That’s an essential difference to what you requested. And btw. your solution doesn’t work anymore, as soon as you start to play any sequences with polyphonic ADSR release or any looped sample sequences.

Well, I’m fine with that… *g

@Bit_Arts: you are of course completely correct. i am doing a gate-effect and not a delay-effect. however, as i said, i want to have notes repeating in a sequence, and commonly you do this through delay. now, as mentioned before, another way would be to just program the notes in the pattern editor and apply volume commands to quiet them down. this would not be a delay effect either. the point is, that it will accomplish the effect i’m after.

You’ve got BitArts to thank for the brains behind doing it in such an elegant way, I just did a quick ten minute mock-up to help illustrate to those having trouble seeing what he meant from his words.
