I’ve been messing around with LSDj a little bit lately and the one thing I really love that I miss in Renoise is the subpattern-style sequencing you can do in LSDj. Instead of writing out every step for every track in every pattern you build pattern lists for each track and then you can sequence those independently of each other. Is this the kind of thing that people want to see in the hypothetical Renoise arranger? Is there some other way of achieving a similar workflow in Renoise?
Hi kuniklo,
I’m with you on this one. Being able to create re-usable elements is a massive workflow improvement, but unfortunately not implemented yet. However, it’s possible to achieve simular results using vst host sequencers such as Phrazor, or EnergyXT, they both work fine inside Renoise.
If you really, really want this functionality inside Renoise, I suggest you join the discussion. Currently, three different ways are being discussed:
1: Doing an arranger view, the traditional way with timeline and clips
2: Integrating clips into the pattern editor, with an option to zoom in & out
3: Instrument patterns, a sequence of notes associated with an instrument
Search the forums for posts that deal with each of these solutions, or check out the renoise mindmap:

Thanks for the info. I’ll read up on some of the other conversations. From my short experience with LSDj, I really like the way it handles subpatterns, which I guess would be closest to #2. I’ve got plenty of other options for #1, which doesn’t seem very tracker-like, so I guess that would be my least favorite option. #3 sounds less flexible than #1 but I’ll read up on it a bit more.
