There are many but many free & commercial VST Instruments Plugins in 2010… I would like to know your opinion about VSTi Plugins by Theme Instruments which works 100% in Renoise 2 whose you use :

Free:
Strings: StringZ 2 from Krakli

Synth/Techno: Synth1 has gotten recently updated. That’s a great, low-CPU ‘all-around’ type of synth. Synth1 is like one of the top free synths of all time.

8-bit/Chiptune: Basic 64, Unknown64, Famisynth 2.5, 389111 Bytes, Medusa2, ProtoPSG, ymVST, etc.

Commercial:
8-bit/Chiptune: Maybe not directly a ‘chiptune’ synth, but capable of those kinds of sounds; Dirty Harry from de la Mancha is worth the $15. The very best is supposed to be Plogue Chipsounds, but it’s more like $100 if i’m not mistaken.

Plogue Chipsounds is one of the best ‘8-bit’ plugins I know.
It is 75.00 euros / $US 113.05
