does anyone have any tips and tricks for effective use of the 04xx pattern effect command (volume slicer)? I cant seem to get it to change its behaviour too drastically even when entering different values…the only thing i know is: x = volume, y = tick

You can raise the amount of ticks per line to get more interpolation steps in the [song settings] tab below.
This way you can pick steps on less drastic spots for the y value.
But you can set to to a maximum amount of 16 ticks. (hexadecimal value limit for pattern effect commands)
so if I have a tick value of 12 and I use the command 0406 on every line the volume will drop to 00 at tick 6 once per line?
Yes regarding the moment on the row, but when maximum ticks are set to 12, tick 6 will be at 50% whereas if maximum ticks would be 6, tick 6 would be at 99% of the row. And if maximum ticks are 16, than tick 6 will be at less than 40% on the row.
