just a dirty little idea, made a quick arrangement, no gimmicks, mix probably sucks, but anyway … It just felt nice to have my ears filled with my own sound after two weeks of near-silence and tweak the bass until it really shook the room. Yeah. Probably won’t even finish this because the whole thing is a huge copyright-infringment (anyone knows this sample, btw ? ).
mix sounds good so far, pretty crisp…1.31 till the sample filters in, the beat feels weak in this, doesn’t kick hard enough…also the bassline isn’t very lowfreq heavy, turn the bass up a notch. Honostly this type of music doesn’t really inspire me much, maybe I should shut the f**** up. bye
bass is too low, realized that after I checked against some other (professional) tracks. and that kind of music is really party/club music which does nothing for me at home, but I have been to a party recently with some english DJ (+MC) who did a four hours breaks-set and it was just amazing. The whole room was shaking from the basses, I danced my ass off and was totally sweaty afterwards. I think I am too old for D&B now (or something) and breaks are just my tempo.
but I really agree that tracks like these are not really working if you sit at home and listen at a moderate level.
I’m loving the horns, breaks is definitely a good party. Way less of a sausage fest on the dancefloor than contemporary variants of d&b. This somehow gives off a disco/house vibe for me. I’ve been to a few breaks parties in my city and this is definitely not typical of the current sound, at least around here. A fun track, but I’m having trouble placing it within the genre. It’s original for the style, that’s for sure.
If you are looking for inspiration check out: http://breakbeat.ca/ run by a Montrealer named Somsay, it’s a pretty good resource for what’s going on. Cheers.
EDIT: and in the middle of that page there’s a youbtube video of a disco breaks track with a guy soloing a saxophone, hence, I stand completely wrong. My opinion? Worthless.
Well, I don’t know about sub-genres myself, I just love all sorts of electronic music and I do love jazz/funk/70s disco, so when I do music I tend to mix those things, it’s all based on that “sophisticated” sampling approach hiphop established a few aeons back, combined with “breakbeat” in it’s wider sense, and just the gimmicks, drums and bpm change from track to track because I don’t concentrate/love/do a very specific genre.
Thats also a reason I don’t like D&B anymore, atleast the parties here focus too much on that tekknoid synth-based sound, I like my music with sampled “real instruments”, with disco/funk background. The last D&B party I really enjoyed was with a brazilian DJ who did play mainly disco/samba-based D&B.
The Sample is btw. from MFSBs “The Zip”, a rather classic 70s disco-track, and it’s just an attempt to mix that stuff into breaks … But it’s really just a preview, there are some more lines from the original track to be used and this is hopefully a kick-off for a new collabo I am trying to establish, found someone in my city with about the same ideas/interests and I want to work together with him.
and thanx for that link, seems interesting atleast for the dj-sets
