I’ve been looking a while for any good tools when making music. The thing i need most is a good browser that can play samples and is easy to use and create folders and rename stuff.
Another tool i would like to get my hands on is one that exports all the instruments in an old XM song to WAV or XI for instance. It’s too much work opening up all my old songs, saving the wav’s etc. I have hundreds of old songs and even more samples i would like to freshen up, and reuse.
Any other tips of useful tools are greatly appriciated. =)
Um… have you checked the features of renoises browser? you can browse + playback samples and also make folders using it. (Right click with on a sample and you can rename them.)
Incase you have songs made in FT2 like I do, I think Xmplay has least errors when playing back XM’s made with older software. Not sure about the export though but it plays xm’s pitch shiftings (that even renoise can’t) quite correctly…
maibe i dont understand what you want but for editing i use this http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
You can record, edit etc. Renoise can edit samples too

Hehe… thanks. yes i know there’s a browser in Renoise, but it’s too tiny. I need a BIG window with autoplayback on selection so I easily can drag and drop samples to desired folders in a tree structure. My sample library is a mess right now. A lil bit here and a lil bit there, and many things you can’t tell what it is by looking at the name that’s why I need a good browser to clean up the mess.</0x0000562850a982f0>
Wohaaa… that’s a pricey piece of browser I think i mentioned “freeware” before, It’s a lil too advanced for my taste, basically windows explorer would do if it would autoplay waw samples on selection… I don’t need support for all those kind of formats. I’ll try it out though …
Yes I know but all the features you need are in the free version. I used this back in the days when I moved from FT2 to Noisetrekker and I tried it again now and it extracts all the instruments in xm files and converts them to either wav, xi or a whole bunch of other formats.
For sorting samples you might try Total Commander. The demo version has only a nag box and if you consider buying it, it’s cheap and you’ll get future updates for free.
In TC you can switch one side to a quick view and use the other side for the current folder and you might add an extra tab, where a folder tree is shown, to quickly move samples around.
The quickview plays most *.wav files and if you need more formats, you might try looking for additional lister plugins at the links below.
Hmm, I think this is a bit far shot, but does anyone know any other software that could achieve this?
Awave is quite buggy and creates the wavs from XM’s playing 3 octaves too slow so it’s almost useless for this =(=( Unless I’ve missed some trick to deal with this issue…
Anyways… PLZ help someone cause, I’ve got 3000 samples to extract and Renoise itself does not allow fast saving of samples as a feature.

I found a nice DOS tool a few years ago that extracted Wav’s from the instruments in a XM file in a blink of an eye, and did the job almost perfectly, but I can’t seem to find it anymore. I don’t remember the name either, but my best guess is to start googling for some oldschool tracker sites that list useful tools as well.
NEEDED 1 - I was looking for a program that could extract ALL the samples in a Reason Sound Bank file to WAV’s or AIFF or whatever, Found some tool but that just did 1 sample at a time, and if multiselecting it crashed. So if anyone know I’d be grateful.
NEEDED 2 - Does anyone know of any tool that can all notes in a certain range from a certain preset in a VSTi synth to Wavs? Would be really helpful, and i really don’t like using VSTi’s when tracking.</0x00005628525c5b90>
discoDSP Highlife can sample VSTi, then export the sampled sound to SFZ format and you have access to the WAV files. Just delete the ones you don’t need. Other software might be DirectWave from Image Line (not sure what export is available in it) and Extreme Sample Converter.
What I would bloody love is a file manager that scans an entire Hard Disk, and finds file types.
Then it would ask you if you want to put all those files types in a certain location. From there you could fine tune from within the software. Eventually you would end up with a nicely sorted hard disk with a clean naming system for all the folders.
