I would love to work with you lot to develop a way of changing velocities in renoise easier.
Do you have ideas on how to improve it, concerning pattern editor and/or automation editor?
In the pattern editor I use the ctrl+i thing to interpolate between min/max volume column values and this tool for randomizing;https://forum.renoise.com/t/new-tool-2-8-velocity-randomizer/38684 . There are a bunch of tools though that can generate or alter velocity, but for me simple edit-step keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+1-9) often work fastest changing emphasis in volume.
In the automation editor I use the automasher tool for complex patterns & line tool for larger gestures, works pretty fast imo, but obviously the native drawing functions are limited.
What I like from the piano roll way of editing velocity in for example cubase is that you can select a particular note range horizontally across a song and only apply velocity changes to those selected regions. This visual, birds eye oversight, mouse dragging affair of ranges would be cool to have in Renoise. Currently you can only select all points that are drawn in the chosen selection in the automation editor, not just the top values, also you can’t mouse select across pattern boundaries.
Also a bit interesting on this topic should be this clever tool by Ledger. It should provide a way to do some good old ‘slow randomization’ - e g mouse painting of values
