Visual Programs That Can Generate Images

Ey,

besides the odd jungle beat, I’ve been dabbling with a mixture of visual and audio programs for the last 1.5 year. I’ve been layering (processed) field recordings with more synthetic noisy sounds with the goal to create an interesting tension, movement over time. Something you could call music, maybe?

The main combo has been Ms paint / Audiopaint / photoshop & Renoise / wavelab (vst) (+ hex editors for teh glitch).

For a few weeks now, I’ve been trying out different generative graphics apps in which you can set certain rules for it to create .bmp images. Like Lindenmayer L-systems ( http://to-campos.planetaclix.pt/fractal/plantae.htm ), or fractal generating apps. (got a few nice ones here: http://www.ssdesigninteractive.com/g2/?cat=20 )

My question here is if anyone knows more cool little programs for windows that let you generate .bmp images?
I’m looking for generative graphics, having some kind of geometric composition to use for example in audiopaint/photoshop to create (polyphonic) rhythms.

Cheers,

R

I’m not familiar with any such program, but I really wanna say you’re such an awesome artist. You take stuff to new levels, man. Respect!

How about good 'ole Fractint?

Not exactly what you’re looking for, but you can do some pretty awesome visual synthesis in Resolume (I prefer the 2.x versions to version 3, but have a look anyway)

Only suggesting it because i’ve used it to generate some animated geometric madness, although its mainly designed for manipulating short video loops

thnx for the suggestion vV & Corticyte, though Resolume will be on my ‘to do’ list for another time as video is a whole other paradigm.

blushes uncontrollably and faints :) Thnx dude, just having fun here, trying stuff outside of the box.

By the way, I cross posted this thread and got a great list of apps on kvr, check:

what’s that fractal star from?

I’ve done a bit of visual generation with c++ and also max/msp+jitter. Worth trying if you’re willing to put the effort in.
