Arranging a song is a pain in the a** in Renoise. If you are masochist and like to copy and paste all the time then go for it, but dont put stupid comments for people that dont want to.
That’s why god (taktik) invented keyboard shortcuts.
Besides that, when occasionally using Reason which has an arranger, I do c/p like nuts also. The only difference is the visualisation, no? That said, it’s a question of your workflow of course.
I agree with the fact, that a new arranger should be done but right now this does not prevent to make music with renoise. Atleast it doesn’t prevent me to do so.
*edit
much more important and should be top prior: automatic cowbell generator, lolcat songcover generator, nibbles and rewire master/slave caugh
You can do the same with adblock plus, plus it blocks ads.
what about a MIDI capture function a la Logic Pro ??? !!!
You may say that you want arranging songs made easier.
but I thought it was wrong of you to say Renoise is useless without an arranger.
I saw that you edited your post, so I think you also noticed that it was a bit out of place.
Maybe you already found it, but maybe the “clone and add the current pattern” button in the pattern editor.
this will create a new unique pattern with the same data in it.
Judging by the specs the so long missed Beatslicer (requiring almost sample accurate grid to work properly) would be really easy to implement after this 2.0 update.
So I’ll say it…
BEATSLICER!!! (With Rex & Rx2 import)
I vote not to put pressure on people!

I miss: Simultaneously recording of multiple audio tracks.
to me and my way of using Renoise, the ONLY important thing i dream of
is “Audiotracks”, meaning just to have the ability to trigger long wavs from a folder (relative path) on harddisk, and at the same time SEE the wav inside renoise.
I use energyXT to do this now, but I find this combination is a buggy, limiting, boring and timeconsuming way of arranging stuff, both in production and during ‘postmixing’ , which I also prefer to do in Renoise
Audiotracks are the one thing that sits between Renoise and Absolute Stardom.
It’s not “real” studio software because of this… face it, despite all the benefits that
tracking has to offer, the program suffers from the limited options when it comes to
recording (like what captain Atomsk said). Besides, since Renoise now has
a recording function, the ability to handle long samples would be a logical next step.
Renoise shouldn’t limit itself to recording snippets only!!
I would like to start out by saying…that first post…golden!
I remember the first time I booted up Renoise 1.9…
I was a little overwhelmed but I sat down watched some tutorials by Kaneel and studied the demo songs, of in about a month time I was creating quality music.
Renoise 1.9 was my first tracker. I have been hearing about them for years but I always thought I wasnt good enough to use them and I didnt understand how to work them.
Now that I do know how to operate Renoise…it is my fav peace of software now…
I havent booted up Cubase SX ever since I bought Renoise.
I love Renoise. I am hopelessly addicted. Thnx you guys for a danm good quality product. I couldnt be more happy with a peace of software.
Now on to features…
I have only been using Renoise for about 6 to 7 months now. I love the way how everything is set up.
I think a piano roll would be taking away from the feel of Renoise, a patter editor would be cool…but…I think it would also take away from the feel of Renoise. Rewire slave/master would be cool. I dont know much about the structure code of the program but…cool?
anyways. Long story short…I love the way Renoise works. I love have there are like 10 ways to do everything, you just have to be creative. We have a very nice Jem here guys…and I agree, lets keep this unique. I dont want anouther FLstudio clone and Live clone…I want Renoise.
Pure and simple.
Done!
well said. i agree 100%. if i could pick 1 feature to be added, audio tracks would be it.
SIDECHAINING!!! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS DEMOSCENE!!!
A lot of interesting reading in this thread so far-
thanks to the Renoise team for version 2.0. It is now an even more refined beast!
My two pennies worth:
LPB makes a lot of sense in moving towards the proposed expandable pattern view,
which I think would be an asset to Renoise when it comes to the final arrangement of a track.
To have an overview of your patterns would really help with getting one’s head around the form of a track.
I feel that improvements to the XRNI structure would be the next logical step for continuing in the spirit of a software that is highly tuned as an instrument of expression:
Offering automation on more parameters, such as the cutoff frequency of the instrument’s filter ( rather than a filter DSP effect ) so that the envelope shape is being moved, would be very welcome.
Automating envelope curves would also be good. To have a “morph” function so that you can change between envelope presets for example.
Morphing between multiple instances of an XRNI with different filter, envelope & loop settings would be brilliant IMO.
Assigning midi channels to each XRNI instance would allow for multi-timbral playing. E.G, playing two instruments from your midi keyboard by assigning them the same channel.
I would like to see Renoise forging its own path away from the traditional routes of music software development. Therefore, piano roll doesn’t get my vote.
On my wish list are:
Live mode implementation/ expandable pattern view and triggering.
Integration into another Mixing application through Jack transport / Rewire / or as a VST/AU plug-in.
XRNI developments.
Once again thanks for a brilliant piece of music software-
Renoise has rekindled my love of programming.
all i’d want:
this is the biggie
- some sort of audio track that’d allow for instant playback from any point without having to scroll back miles to find the sample trigger. i reckon this feature would cut the amount of time it takes me to do a song by a quarter.
and a distant second and third:
-
ability to set automation over multiple patterns at once. scrolling about, copying and pasting can get disorienting.
-
allow for copy and paste on the “column in song” selection option. i’ve no idea why only the delete option is available but there’s been a number of times it would have been very convenient. and a related possibility: allow columns to be dragged and dropped on the pattern editor in the same way that tracks can.
The only thing I’d really want is midi controllable gui. Really hard! Play/Record/Metronome, Muting/Soloing Channels, maybe (that’d be deluxe) the possibility to activate/bypass effects in your effects chain, and instrument +/-.
This way you could not only have a nice way of performing live, you could also do more work without moving the hands from the (midi-)keyboard/controller.
That’s the one thing I really really hope for (for now! )
