What does it take to get banned?

No, we’re not connected. Why? That don’t even have a sense. I never said that you and people who have the same opinion about EatMe are connected (are you?).

It would be easier if he was my friend - then I may say that you attacking my friend and everything will be easier.

And sure - probably if I knew his previous posts I would have ignored the whole situation.

So as I said - solution is simply - lets stop arguing and focus on music. And I’ll stay ontopic.

Seeing similar friction in several forums.

If you post a new topic “Renoise is the worst piece of software ever created, Taktik is an ass and fuck everyone on this god forsaken forum” then you paste in a picture of “goatse” and a large “fuck you finger” smiley, then you print out your license and loads a huge dump on it it and post the picture of it as a final touch.

Then you might get banned. :joy:

I fully agree. Discuss whatever you need to discuss here in this topic only please, and don’t spread it over the rest of the forum.

I honestly don’t really understand what the real conflict here is, but if this gets out of control we’ll of course stop it and will need to silence everyone involved for a while to not favour anyone.

So replying and insulting others rudely with sarcastic tone is allowed in this forum?

I’ve read the whole thing. And here’s my “I’ve spent way too much time on forums” 2 cents. Yeah, EatMe’s original message was doushy

(Sorry mate, it was. You don’t just jump on a “here’s my stuff” discussion and say it’s shit. You don’t. Even if you think it is. It’s not honesty it’s just rude and disrespectful (and anti-social to be fair.). You don’t know the level or the life of anybody… maybe they do music just for a little while when the kids are asleep after a long day’s work. Might not be world grade music, but if it’s honnest…it deserves a “like”)

BUT, it is internet and people tend to forget that there are real humans on the other side… and it might lead to anti social doushy behaviour. Internet sucks. And I don’t believe this is ban material or that it deserves 50 messages about it. Tell the guy it’s rude then ignore the guy.

Things usually sort themselves out shortly after.

PS: If I was a moderator (I’m not, but I often was on many other forums) I’d just tell everyone to chill and keep an eye out just in case. But, as I say, most of the time, these are quickly forgotten.

Well, insulting is bad, I agree, but sarcastic tone… Read this topic - almost everyone trying to comment others with sarcastic tone. It’s offensive IMO, because it’s treating others with superiority complex (like “I am right and I don’t must explain anythning, my short sarcastic answer is enough”). Even your answer I quoted is sarcastic. I hate it and that’s why my posts are usually longer and I’m trying to explain something instead of writing short messages assuming I have to be right.

But…

After I’ve read three EatMe’s posts here, I don’t really understand what he is talking about. Is it really offensive? More like has no sense for me.

This is probably some post-Trump drama, and I’m eagerly looking for a way to get myself involved. <- I think I’ve found it!

I’m trying to avoid working by any means today. This works well, nice drama.

I have no idea why I suggested people to chill.

KEEP FIGHTING, DAMNIT !!!

Nice sarcasm.

We’re not fighting for some time now, we discuss on forum. I hope it’s not that if your previous post (very balanced and calm) was not the last one, you think it’s fighting?

The older you get the better you get at ignoring nonsense and you realize that if you feed a troll it just wants more. Our world is like an interesting painting, if everyone behaved perfectly all the time it would be a very boring painting.
Opinions are only opinions and if one person has a bad opinion in your eyes, then there are several billions more opinions to take from. Don’t let one opinion ruin your day. Laugh it off, ignore it and let it go.
If you practice this every day, then by the time you reach 80 years old you don’t give a shit about anything. :grinning:

I have ignored many other rude replies but some time enough is enough.Should we let toxic users do what they want in this forum? Is nt that like encouraging this type of behavior and jeopardize the good thing we have here?I had my share of toxic bullying people in my life and I can tell you if they don’t get some kind of punishment they don’t stop .Most of them they don’t stop even if they get punished because bad attitude is deep written in their caracter. We don’t need this type of people here or in our lifes they spread negativity and want to put you down.

In my opinion it shouldn’t be a problem. If the comments start to become personal, then it would be a problem.
“Your music sucks” is not an attack on someone as a person in my opinion, while “i wished you never were born, please go kill yourself” is.
It’s not very polite to say any of these, and it would probably not makd you very popular saying either, but i think you are in your full right to say the first and it would be totally unacceptable to say the latter.

the real question: is it possible to get sokobanned?
(sorry, i’m tired, hard week, i come here to relax and have fun)

You’re right! But you didn’t consider that it’s one thing to tell someone you don’t like someone’s music, but it’s another thing to say it in an offensive manner. I would bet the fewest visitors here are pros, want to become pro or want to get a record deal (Who needs a record deal these days if you can release your tracks online by yourself via Bandcamp or else?), they’re just creating music in their free time for fun, and maybe they also don’t have much free time left. So what do you expect? Always serious pro stuff from guys who want to get a record deal for whatsoever? Of course there is lots of music you don’t like, of course there are many things a more experienced musician wouldn’t refer to as a finished song, of course there are many guys who are creating “worse” music in terms of quality than others, BUT do you really need to tell those guys that their music is awful and completely sucks? Why is it that hard to tell it in a nicer way or just to shut the fuck up? Sometimes I also think to myself “This can’t be meant to be serious, must be a joke for sure” while listening to music from others, but do I need to tell it that way? Being rude is not the same than to criticise, that’s for sure. Critics of course should be honest, but they should also help. Even if the world outside is harsh or not. You just said it by yourself, this is a niche forum. Within such a niche it’s not necessary pulling others down just because you don’t like their stuff, is it?! Instead you should encourage them to get better.

I very much agree with that.

I’m also not a fan of the fluffy “everybody is a winner” style, heck, I get a rash whenever I hear the word “community” these days… but the Renoise forums has always been one of the most open minded places I know, and I greatly respect that people put so much love and work into lifting each other up. Not shitting on what they do (I don’t even mean the music, I mean the effort of listening to music of others and giving feedback… making music can be fun after all, but constructive criticism is always work to a degree, IMO), even though I’m often a bitter prick myself, is the least I can do.

But I think it’s good to vent, and I think it’s good this topic was made. Bitching at each other to clear the air is better than not bitching. I don’t drink, but this one makes me wish I was drunk just so I could tell you how much I love all you goofy fucks

Let’s face it, 2020 was shitty, 2021 isn’t starting much better… let’s cut each other some slack. Failing that, at least grudge fuck one another. You know you want to!

I find this discussion a bit exaggerated, tbh. Eatme sometimes is kind of special, sometimes he might have a weird opinion or attitude. In written form, it might look offensive, but it is more an expression of some inability, to realize how others feel and think, I would say. Why do you take it so seriously, and do not ignore such posts. Not everybody is born with strong empathic senses.

Sure, it would help, if offensive posts were deleted pretty quickly, but I think said thread was cleaned up now completely?
