Which Audio Interface To Get

I am looking to get an audio interface for my laptop. (my renoise machine).
It’s a windows XP pro machine.

Not sure if I should get a firewire or USB interface. I was wanting suggestions from the users here. mainly i would be using it to record at least one stereo line in and have at least 2 seperate channels out for laptop DJ sessions.

Thanks for your opinions.

i am currently looking into something by m-audio.

thanks! :D

if your lap has firewire i would go with that since it has greater bandwidth

I’ve got a Firewire 410 from M-Audio. Works like a charm and has only 6ms latency with the ASIO4ALL drivers.

i got the Edirol FA-101 and i can recommend it. good converters and amps and i havn’t had any bugs yet. the thing maybe too big for you but they got smaller packs as well.

another good choice would be one of the Terratec Producer Series that are supposed to be pretty quality for a reasonable price.

don’t know about the M-Audio, i’m hearing bad things (driver issues most of all) about them every now and then. maybe they’re over that now though…

as for USB vs Firewire, it totally depends on what you want to do with your card. from what you write, USB should be enough for you. use FW/USB2 if you want to do multichannel recording/routing ect.

stay away from usb audio interfaces. period.

yes im looking for a firewire with at least one input that i can use a mic with and 2 outputs for mp3 djing

my next one … Focusrite Saffire

imho there is no better firewire-interface

a little expensive but Focusrite is known for high quality pro stuff, so I would buy it without any doubt (if i had the money)

but bad converters - e.g. not comparable with e-mu “m”-cards. (but don’t buy e-mu cards … bad drivers!!! ;o) )
