Focus dependant shortcuts

Greetings, I use Numpad 6/7/8/9 to move around Renoise, like sudo-arrow keys. Ideally I’d like to use them depending on the focus/context/page. I’ve realized that I can’t do this because Renoise treats them as competing shortcuts regardless. I can use different modifiers depending on the context, but I’d rather not. Any suggestions?

Sorry I will be out of context but this time there is more and more questions about shortcuts, keyboard…

Sometime I could think Renoise could be in a groovebox.

sorry

It practically is one

Trade-off between speed , minimalism and more advanced features

I hope you will find your ideal recipe

Good luck

hi, so, it is possible to read which middle frame you’re in (pattern editor, phrase editor, mixer, etc) and have a global shortcut for aech of these numpad keys, that will, depending on which middle frame you’re at, do something ,or something else. do you have some examples of what you’re looking for? @Soaringbits

I don’t use the number pad for that kind of navigation, but not being able to map the same shortcuts for similar actions in different areas of the UI has always been a frustration for me. I’ve always ended up just sticking with the stock bindings even though it feels like I’m then under-using the keyboard.

I was really surprised when I first realised this wasn’t possible, since you’d think it would be one of the main benefits of having the ‘keyboard focus’ concept.

Brilliant. I’d like my 7/8 numpad keys (left, right) mapped to Paketti Find Note (next/previous note, pattern (pattern editor), Move left/right (mixer), Select next/previous track (pattern matrix), and 6/9 to next/previous row with note (pattern editor), Move Up/Down (mixer), select next/previous sequence (pattern matrix).

hi, so i took a look at this.

7,8
Find Note (Next/Previous Note) (Pattern Editor)
Previous / Next Track (Mixer)
Previous Track / Next Track (Pattern Matrix)

6,9
Next/Previous Row with Note (Pattern Editor)
Move Up/Down (Mixer)
Select Next/Previous Sequence (Pattern Matrix)

then after making the above list, i took a look at the Find/Note

and it seems like the solution is to make Find Notes available for Pattern Editor, in addition to Global.

so, now that I have the Find Notes available in Pattern Editor, they won’t override the Pattern Matrix + Mixer shortcuts.

Therefore:

please download the newest version from Releases · esaruoho/paketti · GitHub - it now has both Global and Pattern Editor shortcuts for Find Note & Next Previous Row with Note

now it should just be a case of going to Pattern Matrix and Mixer, and setting the same shortcuts for “Move Up/Down” & “Select Next/Previous Sequence”.

and for “Move Left/Right” (Mixer) and “Select Next/Previous Track (Pattern Matrix).

i hope this helps!

Thanks for that. I’m not a seeing Find Note (etc) in Pattern Editor, only Global. If I am understanding correctly, global overwrites the other shortcuts, while pattern editor does not?

Yep Global overwrites it all. Did you grab the new build from GitHub?

@Soaringbits

global_and_pattern_editor

in the newest version (on the github) - here’s what we have
