Let’s be honoust , only 8 macro knobs for the instrument editor is way to few .
Is there a reason for this restriction ?

Hear hear! 8, 16, 24, 32 in a collapsible per row gui would be great and helpful.

yes please. even 16 would be magnificent. more would be insane.
16 would be a great start, would let me grow the Paketti default instrument to be even more complex and more capable

While we are on the subject, it would be very helpful to be able to drag macros to re-order them as well

And bipolar gui for knobs ( makes sense when values are -/+ ) and optional sliders

This has been proposed before. I know of the less is more concept and the question will arise what is the perfect amount? If one says 16, another might need 32 et cetera 
. With the added phrase script input functionality you now run out of mappable macros even faster so imo 8 is not enough. I’ve suggested a + icon before where the user can add rows of 8 to his own wished max amount, but that might be too much. I feel 16 would be a good amount.
Another pet peeve regarding macros for me has been the lack of ability to store macro knob settings in ‘presets’ (imo something similar like how you can right mouseclick in global view presets in numbers would be cool) . You can have a wide range of sounds through different macro settings, why not be able to store them and be able to recall them at the click of a (midi mappable) button (extra bonus points to have an adjustable timer to morph between macro presets 
).
