A Simple Plan With Pattern Sequencer/queue Mode

Hi

Basically the new queue mode is great, but something is needed to 1) get the user away from the mouse and 2) support more complex song structures. Here’s a (simple, but concrete) suggestion that we could discuss:

Supposed we could define a number of “triggers”. A trigger would:

  1. have a start, a loop-start and loop-end pattern.
  2. be triggable from keyboard and midi.

Let’s assume trigger 1 is defined with start=1, loop-start=3 and loop-end= 4. Activating it would queue pattern 1 (maybe position 1, which might be any pattern, not sure), which would start playing after the current one finishes, then play through 2 and loop 3-4. The fact that it*s not only a loop but more like a loop with preroll, makes it useful for triggering a chorus (that loops until the next trigger is send) with a pickup break.

What do you think?

Sounds useful. It would be nice to think about a full live mode with it’s own set of global sortcuts and other options not used in usual music creation as this cueing seems like just a basic start to what is needed to really work comfortably live.

Agreed.

Other useful stuff would include an option to not queue but start playing right away (like right clicking) a trigger. Also I’m not sure it’s possible to map midi to track mute (in mixer), but that’s needed too.
