hey all, I’m doing a bit of an exercise, a tune a day for 30 days. I’m on day six today, but if you’re interested in hearing any of the output from this whole thing, here’s my soundcloud
it’s a self-imposed exercise in finishing music quickly, but more importantly, willing to let go of a piece of work every day. Given that, there’s a variety of styles, and i wouldn’t exactly say that their all very good!
Also i’ve written all of them so far @ 1 pattern/bar and 32 lpb. it can be overwhelming but allows me to think more in terms of overall movement, instead of just 8 bar phrases or something.
loving the analog filter, and massively abusing cdp and the comb filter! I’m trying to keep as much of this native as possible, so i’ll release xrns files when i’m done of the ones i can.
Tuneaday, hah thought the weekly beats project thing where you try to finish a track a week is ambitious ( http://weeklybeats.com/ ), I like what you say about ‘letting go’, good excersize in battling high standards.
the newer tunes? god maybe a few hours. I’ve got a ton of samples i made from straight sound design sessions, but i’m usually royally fucking even those up whenever i’m making anything. I use render selection to sample all the time. lotta resampling! I guess as far as drums go i’ve spent (way too much) time thinning out my sample collection so i have a decent idea for go-to drums, but i’ll usually process them somehow in the track too.
This whole thing was also a response to having a year-long bout of writer’s block that developed as I witnessed the perversion of electronic music before my very eyes. hahaha.
thanks for the feedback, and if anyone else is down, you can start now! i think i’m gonna focus on shorter pieces that i’m happier with. too easy to make ‘tunes’ for the dancefloor that end up being too repetitive
oh it went alright, I ended up getting to around 22 or so, but I had some work fall in my lap and I had to cut it short. I only kept a few up there that I actually thought were decent
